Tom Schecter & The Urchins of South Street

Production, Live Support

An alternative rock band blending classic drive & shifting texture with bulletproof songwriting, Tom Schecter & The Urchins of South Street are a standout. Collapsed Wave is working to hone demos for their second full length release in a way that honors the group's diversity of influences, while making a focused musical statement.

Mario Spinetti

Production, Engineering

Mario Spinetti is a 21st century singer-songwriter who complements his clarion voice with strong classical training. After engineering his debut EP, Collapsed Wave was invited to collaborate on production of a full-length followup. This partnership resulted in a fresh, electronic direction which fused the artist's pop ambition with his flair for arrangement.

Morris Code

Production, Composition

Digital artist morriscode (sic) is more informational field researcher than formal musician. His work addresses the space - or lack thereof - between ones & zeros, data & technology, apparatus & audience. Collapsed Wave is responsible for making all this intelligible to the listening public, whether that means reading essays or applying EQ.

Why Choose Collapsed Wave?

"So the question becomes not whether you can do it or not, because any drudge can do it if they're prepared to sit in front of the computer for a few days; the question then is: of all the things you can do now, which do you choose…"

- Brian Eno, Strategies For Making Sense

Music is an art, it's easy to forget that when you start to think about making a record. However with ongoing disruption in the music business, it becomes more essential than ever. Major label signee or hustling independent, a robust artistic core is critical to success.

Lightbulb

New patterns of consumption mean labels can no longer support the bottom line with a string of one hit wonders. They need tent pole artists to attract concertgoers, media attention and marketing partners – the sort of artist with vision spanning, songwriting, production, visual identity, brand management and more – otherwise a career launch is too costly to risk.

The silver lining is that as technology disrupts old business models, it facilitates new ones. A single person can write, record, promote and sell their music with no more than a personal computer and an internet connection.

But independent success requires vision too, and then some. Since they won't have access to the same level of creative support staff, and democratization also increases competition, acts need to be that much more tenacious & compelling on their own.

So if there is one piece of advice to give a musical artist as they approach the recording process, it is be just that - a musical, artist. Think how you might like to communicate your perspective & motivations on a record. And if you're ready to hit the studio, but not sure where to start, need a little feedback or want to augment your existing skill set, Collapsed Wave is here to help.
